Hack the Boat is a blog dedicated to my journey to become a cybersecurity professional. In this post I will briefly explain how the idea came about and the connection with my university studies. Finally, I will reveal the plans for this webpage and goals I hope to achieve.
Why Hack the BOAT?
The BOAT in Hack the BOAT highlights my attempt to combine 2 passions of mine. Previously to me joining university I was a maritime professional working on sailing and motor superyachts, I loved this experience and learn so many useful skills. My studies in Media and Cultural Production led me to explore the web in ways I didn’t before and realize I was particularly interested in how things worked. Countless hours of research, podcasts and videos on a vast array of tech related subject made me realize that hacking was the most appealing to me and decided to learn more about it . Fast forward 12 month in my self-study journey and I am working hard to combine hacking and my maritime experience to find a job that fulfil both passions.
Why a blog?
Cybersecurity by itself has a steep learning curve but this field includes a vast variety of educational platforms, maritime security although is much more niche and do lack such resources. During my research I found most of the answer to my questions form micro-blogs (Twitter) or personal blogs dedicated at people personal research journey and projects. This blog following my learning journey and my interest in Superyacht security hope to create valuable resources for this niche.
What am I offering?
This blog is also part of my academic research on the value of blogs for education and on what elements make blogs great educational resources. At this stage my cybersecurity experience is limited therefore I believe my early content won’t be a great source of technical knowledge but offering insights on how I am proceeding in my studies, I believe will help readers find inspiration for further research.
What next?
The next few posts are dedicated to defining in more details the context of this blog, including my personal background, goals and my approach to this project.
See you soon!
